While the "specials" lack a copyright notice (didn't one of them have a closing logo that was obviously spliced on years afterward?), but the shows they contain clips from are copyrighted. Are they still safe to have on here?

It's my understanding that though the COMPILATION itself may be copyrighted, the clips you extract from them probably aren't. It should be okay. Anyone else care to weigh in?

I got it the wrong way around.

I'm not talking about my "compilation of classic TV footage" videos. I make 'em, and I donate each to the public domain (I am very careful about them. I don't use clips from "Coke Time", for example, since the musical compositions are copyrighted, even though the show itself is public domain).

I am referring to the vintage fall-preview specials, such as this:

They lack copyright notice and don't seem to have been registered for copyright (could someone check?), but they contain clips from copyrighted shows.

I don't think you have too much to worry about. Fall previews are essentially extended length commercials to get the public interested in their shows. It's not the same as uploading episodes of the shows themselves. I don't see NBC throwing a fit about using a preview of shows from 1969.
